Fire Mapping

The Black Summer Fire Mapping and Data Collection Project has produced this interactive mapping tool for users to readily access information about the fires and forest recovery. The mapping shows the extent of the 2019-2020 bushfires and provides information about the burn severity. Area burnt and burn severity information were mapped using data from satellite imagery.

Additionally, users can view images and records from the latest citizen science observations. The tool will assist us to answer questions about the impacts of the fires and recovery of the landscapes. It is a vital exercise in land management, community engagement and using citizen science to better understand the impacts and recovery of large-scale land disturbances.

To use the tool simply zoom around the map or scroll through the records and photos. Each component is interactive and by clicking on a dot, photo or the table information relating to that record will be shown. To show all records again, click on the map away from any points. If you are having problems viewing the map, clear your browser cache or open the page in an incognito window.
